Living Purposed

My struggle with cars has been real!  My first car was a Pontiac Bonneville.  Although the car was paid for in cash and left me payment free, the car cost more in repairs than it was worth. Over the course of my time with “Bonnie”  I paid for a new engine, new tires and a host of other maintenance issues.  After 6 years, and a move back home to GA, my beloved Bonneville put me down.

I knew I wanted my next car to be payment free as well – as I don’t like to continuously pay for things that depreciate and lose value. The only car I intend to BUY …. is my dream car (swoon!). I began to believe and pray for a car. One that was completely paid for with no monthly payments and I received just that! A 2007 Honda Accord coupe. The car was gifted to me, leaving me payment free.  I LOVED my new car.  Although an older model, it had leather seats, seat warmers, a sunroof (heart eyes emoji!) and seemed to be in great condition.  Of course, it was too good to be true.  Within a couple weeks of having “little tink tink” (Yes, I name my cars lol)  her battery died, soon after one of her head lights went out due to an electrical issue. Not to mention it was going to cost a fortune to get her registered in the state of GA.

Two months shy of our one year anniversary together, my little tink broke down. After putting money into another unhealthy car,  I was left to look for another.  I knew my next car needed to be brand new, eliminating problems that used and older vehicles tend to have.  I was over “clunkers” and cars that would just get me by.  I needed a healthy, stable car from a legit dealership that offered maintenance.  The next day I walked into Honda looking to lease a car. My mom bought her car from this particular dealership and enjoyed her experience. I have always heard more negative than positive about leasing a car.  However, I believed it was the best option for me. I walked out that day with the keys to a brand new 2016 Honda Civic which was voted 2016 car of the year, talk about a car come up!  Below I have listed my pros for leasing a car opposed to buying one.

Six Pros to Leasing a Car

  • Lower down payment and monthly payments compared to buying a car.
  • The dealership paid for the registration and taxes on the car.
  • I don’t feel as if I am stuck permanently with a car that will depreciate.
  • If I go over the allowed miles,  I can trade the car in early with no penalty. (This may be specific and exclusive for Honda)
  • Leasing a car builds my credit.
  • I was able to negotiate and get the exact monthly payment I wanted.  I also got them to throw in free oil changes for the duration of the lease. #masternegotiator

Fun Fact: All of my cars have been silver 🙂 check out “little bae”

I leased a car decades ago. Prefer to buy and keep til it dies. My Hondas last over 10 years!
    Very good report. Thanks!
