I I have always loved magazines. The typography, the images and the way the two work in tandem to create a timeless piece of media. Although an interior designer now, magazine’s are where I first fell in love with a medium of design. They are my go to for inspiration and a staple of comfort. It all started when we would visit my grandma in Cleveland, Ohio. Besides the snow and being hidden under 10 layers of clothes, I remember her magazines. Neatly placed on her coffee table and displayed with love. Whether it was JET Magazine or Essence, I couldn’t help but to pick them up and browse. My love grew over the years as my older sister began to receive subscriptions to SEVENTEEN Magazine in the mail. I would spend what seemed to be hours reading the stories, (when she would let me) awing over the fashion and taking the fun quizzes. Soon enough I dreamt of creating my own magazine one day, a dream that honestly has never diminished. My love for magazines would show up throughout my life. I worked on the yearbook committee in Jr. High and High school where I was able to create page layouts and add my own images and literature. In college my senior design portfolio could have very well doubled as a conceptional design magazine.
I must admit I get a little sad now when walking through grocery stores and even book stores seeing that the magazine selection is getting smaller and smaller. I totally get it, we all rather thumb through an online editorial than go to Barnes and Noble to buy one. However, I can’t help but to splurge on the real thing every now and then, nurturing my pure love for this medium. So I thought I would share my latest magazine buys with you, in hopes there is someone who swoons over large font and editorial images, as much as I do. Enjoy!
The first thing I did upon bringing this collection home was plop them on the coffee table.
Not as neatly as grandma though 🙂
I love how the medium spreads from business to design.
Well, I had to. #kingjames
