Hey People of Purpose, Sydnie here! I hope you all are having a productive week!
I want to share with you four strategic actions that have helped me to live a more peaceful, joyous life. If you are anything like myself, you value feeling a sense of peace in every area of your life. It is ALMOST equivalent to relaxing on a private island, umbrella drink in hand, a sea breeze and good music playing off in the distance – can you tell that has been my daydream as of late!? Over the years, I have gained revelation that a peaceful and joyous existence is partially up to us. Sure, life happens causing our moods and emotions to vary. However, with a little effort we can create a more peaceful world for ourselves.
Stay connected spiritually.
Spending time with God is a great way to lower stress levels and increase peace and joy (Philippians 4:7). Spending time in prayer and reading His word gives us confidence to face the challenges presented and in return we are able to rest, feeling more peaceful and at ease. One way that I like to stay spiritually connected is by confessing God’s will for my life (Proverbs 18:21). I start my day in prayer agreeing with God’s word and confessing positive things, focusing on areas of my life that aren’t so zen or balanced. Afterwards, I feel more at peace and ready to conquer the day. Be led in the way that you stay in tune spiritually. I am sure you will notice a pleasant shift of peace and comfort.
Manage your relationships.
I am most at peace when all of my relationships are healthy. But I admit I am not the best at managing them. I am a huge introvert so at times, I am more comfortable spending time by myself than with others. I tend to go way too long without reaching out to loved ones and in the past I have avoided confrontation in efforts to “keep the peace”. However when I am thriving in the relational department, I am at peace and have a sense of fulfillment and joy. Make yourself available and spend time with those you value, communicate with them often, and nip minor or major vibe killers in the bud as soon as possible.
Do the things that are fulfilling.
“If you want a burger, eat a burger.”, type thing! There are things that we all do that bring us peace and joy. The things that excite us, lowering or eliminating stress. If creating or viewing art brings you joy, do it often, if listening to music or making a tasty meal is your vise, make time to do those things. For me, working on a creative project is so fulfilling. Whether its a new hotel layout at the office, coming up with new ideas for the blog or helping a friend fulfill their dreams, in those moments I am so full of joy and at peace. Tap into your talents and explore the things you are passionate about practice them often and share them with others.
Stay active and eat well.
Major key alert! lol (is that old, yet!?) The day to day hustle can leave us mentally, emotionally and physically drained. The key to combating the sluggish feeling is to stay active and eat well. Your entire being, inside and out will thank you for it. I have chosen to workout in the evenings at a nearby park and I must tell you, there is nothing like it. getting the last few minutes of sun, breathing natures air and sweating out toxins is so therapeutic and peaceful. Putting good things in your body is also important for balance. When you eat well your skin is more balanced, your moods seem to be more even than kill (keel… get it!?) and you tend to stand a little taller. Try working out or doing a physical activity 2-3 times a week if you’re just starting out and increase to 5 days a week for maximum sanity and peace. Trust me we all need those endorphin!
